Boiler Insurance and NDT Inspections
Detecting potential problems before the arrival of the insurance surveyor and early rectification saves the client downtime and cost. Furthermore, inspections have the added bonus of ensuring peak performance and a long service from the boiler itself.
Steam boilers, along with high pressure hot water boilers over 110C require an Annual Insurance Inspection.
JBC’S boiler maintenance teams operate Nationally, carrying out preparations for Statutory Annual Insurance inspection and Non-Destructive Test on all types of shell boiler.
Our team will remove, overhaul and refit valves and carry out repairs to the boiler shell or tubes, as well as testing all the hydraulic systems.
Our teams stay on site during the insurance examination in case of any additional repairs such as a tube end cap or d-patch repair by one of our ASMEIX coded welders. On completion of a successful survey, we reassemble the boiler, fill with water and complete a working pressure test to satisfy the surveyor.
For the 5 year, non-destructive testing (NDT), our team will remove the required refractory, prepare welds for testing and work alongside the inspectors.
Certain areas of an NDT may require ultrasonic testing and these areas are often covered by lagging and cladding which needs to be removed. On steam boilers specifically, the refractory quarl will also need to be taken out.
Once testing is complete, everything is then replaced.
Furthermore, our local office will often coordinate the inspection or NDT with the client and liaise with the insurance company to ensure a smooth transition of works and administration.
