Burner control systems upgrader for healthcare sector

JBC supported a healthcare sector client by modernising the burner control system on their existing hot water boilers. The outdated Satronic TMG 740 controls were becoming costly and difficult to maintain due to unavailable parts. The challenge was to install a reliable, compliant approach within the same limited burner-mounted footprint without requiring full burner replacement or major reconfiguration.

About the project

The client required a burner control upgrade that would improve the reliability and maintainability of their hot water boiler systems while keeping capital expenditure low. Space limitations were a major consideration, as the existing control system was integrated directly into the burner. The client also emphasised the need for reduced downtime, especially given the critical nature of hot water supply in healthcare settings. They were looking for a future-proofed strategy that would avoid the need for complete panel or burner replacement, ensure quick fault diagnostics, and minimise ongoing service disruption.

Key technical enhancements included:

  • Integration of the Fireye BurnerPro, which provides advanced burner control capabilities, improved flame monitoring, and enhanced diagnostic features.
  • Simplified fault finding and system reset functions, improving serviceability for on-site engineers.
  • Retrofitting into the existing burner-mounted control panel, avoiding the need for a new enclosure and reducing installation time and cost.

Our solutions

This project successfully delivered a cost-efficient and technically robust strategy to a common problem in legacy burner systems. By selecting a control unit with a matching footprint, JBC minimised the need for any structural changes and completed the upgrade with minimal disruption to the client’s operations. The new Fireye BurnerPro system significantly improved fault diagnosis, reducing response time for engineers and cutting unplanned downtime. Additionally, the client benefited from lower long-term maintenance costs and no longer faced the delays and risks associated with sourcing obsolete parts. Overall, the healthcare site now benefits from a more reliable, maintainable, and compliant hot water system — future-proofed for ongoing performance.
