Warm Air & Radiant Heaters
- Radiant Heaters
Overhead gas and oil fired radiant heaters are appliances specifically
designed to heat the space beneath them primarily by infrared radiation.
They heat the building’s occupants and its fabric without
heating the air directly and are suitable for heating large volume
buildings. Radiant systems can also provide local ‘spot heating’,
and are also particularly efficient in buildings with high air change
rates.
There are five categories of radiant heaters:
(1) Unitary radiant tube heaters. (2) Multi burner radiant tube
heaters. (3) Continuous radiant tube systems. (4) Radiant plaque
heaters. (5) Radiant cone heaters.
All five categories of radiant heaters are included
within the ECA scheme. However only radiant heaters that are designed
for mounting above head height are eligible for Enhanced Capital
Allowances. These heaters must include a reflector that directs
the heat down and reduces convection losses. The combustion products
can be exhausted into the building provided the required air change
rate is ensured, or externally via an individual flue or a combined
flue system. In addition, radiant tube heaters must be fitted with
end caps.
Note: Electric radiant
heaters, portable radiant heaters and radiant heaters designed primarily
for domestic applications are not eligible for Enhanced Capital
Allowances.
